South Bend Schools Superintendent continues online engagement
with stakeholders
After a nine-month hiatus, South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings will resume his virtual “Talks with Todd” events that provide parents, teachers, staff, students, and community members the opportunity to hear directly from district leadership about issues impacting the community’s public schools.
Unlike previous “Talks with Todd” events that covered all topics related to SBCSC, the upcoming events will be specifically-focused with targeted topics. Only questions related to the designated topics will be addressed during the Facebook Live forums.
“We look forward to resuming these community conversations and promoting engagement across the district,” Cummings said. “This year has been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced, and I’m eager to reconnect with parents, teachers, and others who have worked so hard to get through the year.”
The dates, times, and topics for upcoming “Talks with Todd” events are:
- Tuesday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m.
- Superintendent Dr. Cummings, together with Assistant Superintendent of College and Workforce Readiness Chad Addie, will discuss the varied career and technical education opportunities available to all SBCSC high school students; they also will provide information on how students can earn an associate degree while still in high school.
- Tuesday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m.
- Dr. Cummings and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Mr. Brandon White will discuss the return to in-person learning, academics, remediation strategies for all grade levels, magnet programs, and related issues.
- Tuesday, November 23 at 6:30 p.m.
- Director of Transportation Ms. LaToya King will join Dr. Cummings in discussing the new three-tier schedule and its impact on busing; the positive changes for bus drivers; and how the transportation survey results have helped shape new transportation procedures.
- Tuesday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m.
- Assistant Superintendent of Finance Ms. Kareemah Fowler will join Dr. Cummings and discuss the second round of CARES Act funds and how those funds are being used to assist students who have fallen behind because of COVID-19. Ms. Fowler will also provide updates on referendum funding projects throughout the district.
The virtual “Talks with Todd” events have generated more than ten times the number of participants than the in-person events, reaching more than 11,000 people to date.
