Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. Will buses run on a two-hour delay day? Yes. However, bus pick-up times will be two hours later than the usual schedule (for example, if your bus time is 6:45 a.m., your delay bus pick-up time will be 8:45 a.m.).

  2. When will classes start for students on a delay day?
    1. High schools: 10:30 a.m.
    2. Middle schools, Clay IA, and Kennedy Academy: 11:30 a.m.
    3. Elementary schools: 9:30 a.m.

  3. Will breakfast be available on a delay day? Yes, continental breakfast will be available once the buildings are open.

  4. How will the class schedule be adjusted on a delay day? The classes missed during a two-hour delay will be missed for both students and instructors. Students should report to their current class upon arrival, as of the two-hour delay schedule.

  5. Will there be a make-up day for missed time? Under a two-hour delay, the day is counted as a regular day. Those instructional hours missed due to the two-hour delay will not be made up. In the event of a school closing, the State of Indiana does require the day to be made up. The missed day will be made up on one of the built-in make-up days or tacked on at the end of the school year, if necessary.

  6. What happens if the two-hour delay or a school closing falls on a testing day? The missed testing will be rescheduled using the built-in extra testing time.

  7. Athletics, zero hour, afterschool, and extracurricular activities: Under a two-hour delay, morning athletic practices will be adjusted for the two-hour delay and coaches will communicate their adjusted schedules. After school programs and extracurricular activities will run as scheduled during a 2-hour delay day unless communicated otherwise by coaches or directors. In the event of a school closing, practices and events will be rescheduled. High school athletic competitions might not be canceled. The determination will come from the IHSAA and will be communicated as the information is known.

  8. What happens if a two-hour delay turns into an official closing of schools?  The decision and announcement to change a two-hour delay to an official closing will be made by 7:00 a.m. The day will be considered a missed day unless an eLearning Day is announced. Students will not be required to report to school, practice, or after school programs during the day.
