The South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) and Fanning Howey, an architecture, interiors, and engineering firm specializing in learning environments, will host a second public meeting at the Charles Black Center to gather input regarding the district’s facilities master plan. Guests are invited to provide feedback and ideas about topics such as magnet options, Career and Technical Education, special education, fine arts, athletics, and other curricula.
Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance Kareemah Fowler, along with district officials, and representatives from Fanning Howey will present and discuss the outcomes of the first public survey, issued to students, teachers, staff, families, and community members last month.
“This is an ongoing endeavor with outcomes that we will be seeing for years to come,” said Fowler. “As we proceed, it is critical that we have a seat at the table for all of our community members. Each step we take toward a stronger district must be taken with thoughtful consideration of the current culture—where we are now, where we belong, and how we can enhance and redesign our environment for the success of our students, teachers, families, and the entire South Bend community.”
Changes regarding district facilities consider four components:
-
Educational Framework
- Demographics
- Conditions
- Funding
