Notice of Board Vote on Second Amendment to Superintendent Contract – Option 1
On July 31, 2023, the South Bend Community School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees held a public meeting and received objections to and support for a proposed second amendment to the Superintendent’s contract as required by Ind. Code 20-26-5-4.3. The proposed terms were as follows:
1. Term: Four years, starting July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2027.
2. Annual Base Salary: Retroactive to July 1, 2023, and for each year thereafter, the annual salary will be adjusted by an amount that is equivalent to the highest dollar amount or percentage salary increase that is approved by the Board for any group or subgroup of teachers in the bargaining unit, whichever is greater.
3. Holidays: Beginning July 1, 2023, the Superintendent shall receive 11 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays.
4. Vacation: Retroactive to July 1, 2023, the Superintendent shall be entitled to payment for any accrued, unused vacation days with the amount of the payment to be calculated at the Superintendent’s then applicable per diem rate.
The Board has received and considered comments from the July 31, 2023, public meeting and will consider a recommendation to approve a second amendment to the Superintendent’s contract at its regular meeting on August 21, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Administration Building, 215 South Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, South Bend, Indiana 46601.
The monetary terms of the proposed second amendment are the same as those that were the subject of public comment on July 31, 2023. The proposed term has been reduced from four years to three years, i.e., to June 30, 2026.
