Public School Choice

Public School Choice

When schools do not meet State targets for improving the achievement of all students, prior to school year 2012-13, parents of students enrolled in Title I schools had the option to transfer their children to a public school that had not been identified for improvement. In February, 2012, Indiana was granted the Flexibility Waiver of No Child Left Behind by the U.S. Department of Education. This waiver no longer requires school districts in Indiana to offer the school CHOICE option.

South Bend Community SChool Corporation (SBCSC) has decided to allow students who currently participate in the CHOICE option to continue at their current school until the student has completed the highest grade level in school. Transportation to the school of choice for students already enrolled in the program will continue for the 2012-13 school year. No new student or siblings of current students will be added to the program.
