School Board votes to follow local, national guidelines to lift mask
mandates in schools, facilities
On Monday evening, the South Bend Community School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees voted to transition from requiring individuals to wear masks to recommending that individuals wear masks. These recommendations go into effect on Tuesday, March 8.
“The health and safety of our students is our top priority,” said Brandon White, Assistant Superintendent of Academics. “After consultation with local health officials and following guidance from the CDC, we feel that cautiously relaxing these mandates is appropriate.”
Beginning March 8, masks are recommended in all district buildings and schools, lunch rooms, buses and district transportation, and during all extracurricular activities. Masks should be worn by individuals with COVID like symptoms, individuals who have had a positive test, or those who have had recent exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID.
The district will continue to monitor local, state, and national COVID-19 positivity rates to inform their decisions surrounding safety measures and health protocols in schools and facilities.
