South Bend’s Riley High School was recently designated as a “Distinguished School” by Project Lead the Way (PLTW), an Indianapolis based non-profit that offers students the opportunity to develop skills for “problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication“ through a STEM based curriculum.
Riley was among 143 high schools across the nation to be named a “Distinguished School” by PLTW.
The one-year designation is based on the number of PLTW courses offered, the number of students engaged in the program, and the academic successes of those enrolled in the courses.
“This recognition of our school’s exemplary results reflect the hard work and dedication of our outstanding teachers,” said Riley High School Principal Shawn Henderson.
“The Project Lead the Way model has allowed us to enhance our students’ experiences by offering the most innovative and up-to-date methods for computer technology and engineering.”
In order for a high school to be recognized as a distinguished school, at least twenty five percent of its students must participate in the program; at least thirty-three percent must take two or more courses; and at least ninety-five percent must complete the PLTW “End-of-Course” assessments.
