About the Class

YEAR ONE: COMPUTER TECH SUPPORT

CompTIA A+ Certification

Year one students will gain the knowledge of basic computer hardware and operating systems. Students will learn the principles of building, installing, upgrading, configuring, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing. Students will also learn customer service and communication skills necessary to provide technical assistance.

Students will have the opportunity to qualify to take the CompTIA A+ certification exam. This certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians. The international, vendor-neutral certification proves competence in areas of basic computer hardware, operating systems, and customer service.

Class Information:

  • Two semesters

YEAR TWO: NETWORKING FUNDAMENTALS

CompTIA Network+ Certification

Year two of the program will prepare students for careers in business and industry working with network systems. Students will acquire skills needed to plan, design, install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, operate, and manage basic network infrastructure.

Students will have the opportunity to qualify to take the CompTIA Network+ certification exam. This certification is the sign of a competent networking professional. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that proves a technicians competency in basic network infrastructure.

Class Information:

  • One to two semesters

YEAR TWO: INFORMATION SECURITY

CompTIA Security+ Certification

Year two students may also have the opportunity to prepare for a career as an information technology security professional. Students will learn general security concepts, infrastructure security, cryptography, communication security, attacks and mitigation, disaster recovery, security applications and utilities, operational security, risk assessment, and vulnerability testing.

Students will have the opportunity to qualify to take the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. This certification designates knowledgeable professionals in the field of security, one of the fastest-growing fields in IT. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that proves competency in system security, network infrastructure, access control and organizational security.

Class Information:

  • Completed during semester two of Networking Fundamentals class
  • High school credits are shared with Networking Fundamentals
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification available
