Application Process/Selection Process

Application Process

Applications to the magnet programs are available on November 1st at all school buildings, the Administration Building, and on our website, www.sbcsc.k12.in.us/magnets.

All applications are due by December 15th. They must be received, faxed or postmarked by that date.

Changes to the application may be allowed after the December 15th deadline.

A second application window will be held from March 23 - April 2 if the program capacity has not already been met.

Selection Process

Acceptance into a magnet school is NOT on a first come, first serve basis.

All applications submitted by December 15th are used to create the applicant pool. All students applying to magnet schools (except Kennedy and LaSalle) are included in the applicant pool. The goal of the selection process is that the composition of each school or magnet program will be reflective of the demographics and diversity within the overall student population in the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Students applying to Kennedy Primary Academy and LaSalle Intermediate Academy will be scheduled for admission testing in January. The results of the testing along with other indicators will be used to create the eligible applicant pool for Kennedy and LaSalle. The goal of the selection process is that the composition of each school or magnet program will be reflective of the demographics and diversity within the overall student population in the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Weight will be given to applicants with a sibling already enrolled in the magnet school.

The opportunity to provide a second choice is given on the application. However, the second choice option may not be available if the program capacity has already been met.

Students currently enrolled in the South Bend Community School Corporation have priority in the selection process over students not currently attending SBCSC.

Parent notification letters will be sent for high schools in January and for primaries in early March.

To secure your child's seat in a magnet, letters of intent are required to be signed and returned by the deadline.

Questions about applications can be directed to Mrs. Mary Alexander in the Office of Education and Innovation Services at 393-6047 or malexander2@sbcsc.k12.in.us.
