Based on a model provided by the New Tech Network (www.newtechnetwork.org), the New Tech program began in the 2011-12 school year. The unique features of the New Tech Model include:
  • Wall-to-wall project based learning with a focus on 21st century skills.
  • Use of technology as a daily tool through a one-to-one computer student ratio.
  • A professional culture of trust, respect and responsibility.

This approach provides students with a profound learning opportunity that prepares students for their ever-changing and complex future. New Tech's aim is to foster a passion for exploration and discovery as we move away from traditional teacher-led and textbook-driven curriculum. Students collaborate within student teams, think critically, problem-solve, manage projects, utilize technology, and use verbal and written communication skills daily. Students learn and are assessed on both academic and 21st century skills as they pursue CORE 40, Academic Honors, or Technical Honors Diplomas. Partnerships with local businesses, community organizations and colleges provide academic enrichment.

Students who graduate from the South Bend New Tech Program will be well prepared for college, careers of tomorrow and citizenship.
