Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education

Provides initial instruction on best practices when educating young children. The focus is primarily on children ages 3-5 because we are able to gain fieldwork experience in preschool classrooms. Students will have multiple opportunities to observe, reflect, and implement various teaching strategies and classroom management components. This class is designed for students to understand if preschool learning environments are a good career choice for their future. Six high school credits can be earned simultaneously with 9 dual credits from Ivy Tech. At the end of the academic year, all students have the opportunity to earn state recognized pre-certification certificates.

Early Childhood Education II

This course is an extension of the knowledge and experiences gained during year one of the program. All students are placed in preschool classrooms with the expectation that each student will become a mentor, leader, and advocate for early learning environments. Students can earn six high school credits during ECE II. Those students who were eligible to earn dual credit during year one will have an opportunity to earn 3 college credits on Ivy Tech’s South Bend Campus during spring semester of year two. As part of the college credit, students will have the opportunity to earn a Child Development Associates (CDA) certificate. At the end of the academic year, all students have the opportunity to earn state recognized pre-certification certificates
