Welcome to African American Student and Parent Services
Our Mission is to help improve the academic and social experiences of African-American Students and Parents within the South Bend Community School Corporation by encouraging an educational environment that is built on the foundation of Relationship and Relevancy.
We hope to cultivate the intellect in such a way that our young people find their voice, holistically integrate the vital elements of culture and environment, and think critically about building a community that fosters deeper human connections. Guided by constructivist psychology our goal is to help African-American students become more consistent with their personal values, develop individual autonomy and create the kind of life and society they hope to experience.
As we work toward developing an educational environment in which our African-American students may flourish, we will be guided by four pillars:
- Family belonging, support, connectedness, safety, value, identity
- Washirika unity, partnerships that are life giving and mutually beneficial
- Resources programs and holistic support aimed at continuous academic progress
- Vision adjusting future perception, exposure, expansion, exploration, execution
